Every year we change the scope of the film poster competition Cinema Poster Awards (CPA) in order to make it more interesting. In 2017 CPA was devoted to the 70th anniversary of the Cannes Film Festival. The participants were offered to create a film poster to one of the films: La Dolce Vita directed by Federico Fellini, Taxi Driver directed by Martin Scorsese, Barton Fink directed by the Coen brothers, Dancer in the Dark directed by Lars von Trier, Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives directed by Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Amour directed by Michael Haneke, and Dheepan directed by Jacques Audiard. All those movies won the Palme d’Or at Cannes Film Festival.
The jury of CPA 2017: Kenny Gravillis (USA), founder of Gravillis agency. Clients: 20th Century Fox, Warner Brothers, Universal, HBO, FX, and Netflix. Dana Pavlychko (Ukraine), director of Osnovy Publishing. Osnovy is actively developing a new range of books—books with unique content and design, conceived and created by Ukrainian authors, designers and illustrators. Sergiy Maidukov (Ukraine), illustrator. Sergiy worked for Adobe, The Boston Globe, Esquire Ukraine, Diplomat, Architectural Review, Datum, Harvard Business Review, Brussels Airlines, and McDonalds.
This year we have enlarged the contest and added educational content: workshop No Panic Poster with illustrator Sergiy Maidukov, Screen Printing workshop – paper, workshop Vector Portrait in Poster with illustrator Anta Alek. In addition, we opened pop-up cinema to demonstrate films from Cannes Film Festival program and discuss them with film critics Alain Bergala (France), Oleksandr Gusev (Ukraine), Olexiy Tarasov (Ukraine), and Bertrand Grimault (France). ArtHouse Traffic Club provided licenses for all movies. Every year we put more and more affords to improve and polish CPA.
